Apply for a CitizenCard

CitizenCard is well-established as the UK's most widely-recognised photo ID card.

The purpose of the card is to act as a general proof of identity and age. It can be used as Voter ID, to enter pubs, clubs, cinemas, take domestic flights, buy age-restricted items in shops etc.

All CitizenCards display the PASS hologram endorsed by the Home Office. In addition, an 18+ ID card displays the logos of the Police and Security Industry Authority.

CitizenCard offers free cards to 18+ UK voters (applications must be received at least 7 days prior to the relevant election).

Apply for a Voter Authority Certificate

You can use a Voter Authority Certificate to vote in person in some elections and referendums in Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales).

Issued by the electoral services team at your local council, the certificate displays the elector's name and photograph only.

The Voter Authority Certificate is solely for voting purposes and is not valid for demonstrating proof of age, as it does not display the holder's date of birth.

Ensure you apply for the certificate before the deadline, which is 5pm on the sixth working day before polling day.

# Live in Northern Ireland?

Apply for an Electoral Identity Card

The Electoral Identity Card is a photo ID document issued by the Electoral Office for Northern Ireland.

The primary purpose of the card is to allow people to vote in Northern Ireland elections. It can also be used as Voter ID in mainland UK and to enter pubs, clubs, travel domestically, open a bank account and buy age-restricted goods.

Note that eligibility for the Electoral Identity Card is limited to those registered to vote in Northern Ireland.
